HAL Program: Impact Summary as of February 28, 2007

Provision of Relief Commodities Food and Non-Food Items (NFIs):

  • Assisted 3,568 fishermen along the Lebanese coast (benefiting 19,685 persons: distributing 3,567 Hygiene & Household Kits as well as 3,569 Sets of Food Items

  • Assisted around 20,475persons in 18 villages (Tibnine, Yarine and Ghaziyeh clusters): distributing 4,692 Hygiene & Household Kits

Water and Sanitation:

  • 15,980 meters of pipes with accessories provided to the Water Authority in South Lebanon, benefiting 53,000 persons

  •  8 electric generators provided to pump water, benefiting 12,644 persons

  • A total of 1,139 reservoirs distributed to the villages, benefiting 6,571 persons

  • Repairing and rehabilitating the Litany Irrigation water scheme: reconstruction of 9 culverts and 2 siphons; construction of the new pumping station in Qasmiyeh; rehabilitating the existing Qasmieh pumping station and administration building; and, construction of the Nahr El Shita Bridge.

Health and Psychological Attention:

  • 1,203 persons benefiting from psychosocial attention and hygiene awareness

  • Conducting psychosocial attention for 4000 students, parents and teachers in 15 schools that will also be equipped with extra-curricular equipment

  • Lebanese Welfare Association for the Handicapped (LWAH) - equipping the Nabih Berri Rehabilitation Center – NBRC in Sarafand:

  • 80 persons received appropriate hearing aid devices

  • 97 persons received proper prosthetics and orthotics

  • 25 dry floatation cushions, in addition to electrical beds and mattresses

  •  2,304 persons accessed the occupational therapy unit at NBRC

Food Security and Agriculture/Income Generation:

·         Apple Harvesting:

  • 348 Ha harvested benefiting 1,490 growers

  • 18,798 person days of employment generated benefiting 6,802 persons (unskilled workers, supervisors, students and engineers)

·         Olive Harvesting:

  • Harvested 243.05 Ha, benefiting 1,326 growers in Mount & North Lebanon

  • Trained 981 workers on appropriate harvesting methods.

  • 64 persons employed & more than 13,000 PD of employment generated

·         Rehabilitation of the fish market and the repair of the boats maintenance warehouse in Bibnine-El Aabdeh, in addition to procuring two ice making machines from USA benefiting 500 fishermen’s families.
